Penguin women take silver in the Spring Cup
Apr 20, 2010, 1:51 pm

Penguin first team were in Corby on Saturday 17 April for the semi finals and finals of the National Women's Water Polo League Spring Cup.

Our opponents in the semi finals were London rival Otter A. At the end of the fourth quarter the score was tied so a penalty shoot-out ensued. Penguin took the victory and the place in the final, 9-8.

In the final we were up against Manchester A. Again it was a tight contest but we didn't quite have the killer instinct and Manchester took the game and the tournament title, 6-4.

Although disappointed not to have won, it was a very successful tournament for the Penguin 1st Team, conceding only 3 goals across all of their matches and winning the silver medal.

Well done girls!

Congratulations

Penguin Men beat Maccabi in the Winter League
Feb 25, 2010, 2:32 pm

Penguin Men took a resounding victory over Maccabi in their Winter League match at St Paul's School last night.

Penguin went ahead in the first quarter 2-0 and Maccabi were playing catch up from then on thanks to excellent goalkeeping by Nilo Falcini throughout the match and sharp shooting from Nick Beard and Piers Martin in particular.

Penguin remained dominant in the second quarter, taking the score to 5-1 at half time and extending the lead to 9-3 in the third. In the final quarter we scored two more before losing Mark Bullerwell to injury.

Final score 11-5.

GB Youth vs Penguin Experience
Feb 9, 2010, 2:11 pm

Last weekend the GB womens U19 team was at Crystal Palace for one of their training camps. The Penguin Ladies 1st team was invited to go along and play against them, giving both teams the opportunity to practise different tactics and styles of play in a friendly training environment.

At the end of the day our experience and strength won over youth and speed but all in all a great weekend of water polo.

Penguin Women's 1st Team get the new year off to a great start
Jan 12, 2010, 2:34 pm

Well done to the women’s 1st team who started the new year by winning in both their National League games in Bath this weekend.

After much discussion it was confirmed that the matches would go ahead despite the snowy conditions, so we headed to Bath to take on our London rivals Otter in the opening game of the weekend.

For most of us this was the first time back in the water for a few weeks because recent training sessions had been cancelled due to the extreme weather. After a rusty start we kicked into gear and took the match (7-4).

Our second next game was against Liverpool B, which was another win (9-4).

All in all a great result!

The final NWWPL Division 1 weekend will be in Manchester on 30 and 31 Jan 2010.
