Who won what... find out here. Apr 7, 2011, 9:14 am Penguin second team played Croydon in round one of the Referees Cup on Monday. We didn't play particularly well against a very strong side (they had a number of their players back from University) and we suffered a stinging defeat, 13 - 4, outting us out of the Cup this year. President - Dave Bryan If you are interested in helping to take the Club forward please contact any of these people about being co-opted onto the Committee. Apr 1, 2011, 12:06 pm In their last Winter League game of the season our men's second team narrow lost to a strong Ealing opposition, 7-5. Penguin's team comprised a mixture of 'the old' and 'the new' with four over-45s and four under 19s. It's great that our juniors are playing games and gaining match experience at this level. On 8/9 October the Emperors played their third and fourth games of the season in Corby bringing home three precious points. On Saturday the awaited Penguin-Otter match offered some thrilling moments in a hard-fought battle. We opened the dances with a striking 2-0, evened by Otter before the end of the first quarter. Then Otter took the lead with a three goal break by the end of the second half. The Penguinettes did not give up though! Lead by our outstanding captain El Thomson, we brought the game back to an even score. We held this balance for a long four minutes until a brilliant goal from the post by Leah on her first game back in first division. From that moment the short-benched Otter team wasn't able to get back in the game, and we went on to win 9-6. It was different story on Sunday in our match against Manchester. It started as a balanced contest with a 1-1 scoreline. But despite a nervous Manchester bench (their coach had received a red card) and wrap-ups for two of the their players due to frustation, our we struggled in attack without captain El. Disappointingly, we converted only one of Manchester's 11 kick outs into points and missed two penalties. Rose replaced El in the scoring camp, as the author of one of our goals. Final score 8-2 to Manchester. Mar 19, 2011, 3:27 pm In the London League Winter competition our Men's second team beat Enfield 11-9 on Thursday night at Hillingdon. We had five junior players in the team and each of them scored at least one goal. Well done guys! Our match a few days earlier on Monday night vs Eastern Otter was less successful, losing 7-9 on the night, mainly due to a shortage of players through illness. Mar 19, 2011, 4:26 pm Nominations for this year's Club Awards are now open. Please put forward the names of Penguin players or swimmers that you feel most deserve recognition for their contribution or achievements over the past year. They don't have to be the best players... perhaps they are the most improved or have supported others - it's up to you. Submit your nominations here. Closing date is Thursday 31 March. Winners will be announced at the Club Dinner on 2 April. |
